FORFEITS

If a team reports that only four players will be playing their match, place the highest player’s established average on the roster not playing and the opposing player’s average to figure the team average.  Whenever a player faces the forfeited opponent, he receives a score of  his established average in his slot, or a “8”, whichever is higher, while a “0” is placed in the corresponding slot of the forfeited player.  A non average will be recorded for the forfeited player in the next week’s statistics.

NEW PLAYERS

If your player doesn’t have an average established yet, (3 matches played), use an “8” for a male player’s average and a “6” for a females player’s average to figure the Team Average for that match.   (The league operator may increase that average if deemed necessary.)   If there is more than one player that doesn’t have an established average the same rule applies.   New players may not play in league matches during the last 3 weeks of league.

COACHING

Coaching a player when he is at the table is prohibited.  Please don’t allow coaching, either from the players or spectators.  It is the responsibility of the team captain to see that their team adheres to this rule.

REFEREES

There should be two players, one from each team, watching the present game being played.  Typically, they are the players who will be playing the next game or the team captains.  We call these two players “referees”.  However, they are not official referees (or tournament officials) as defined in the BCA League Players Handbook.  They do not call fouls.  The two players playing the game are the only ones allowed to call fouls.

The purpose of our league’s referees is to settle disputed fouls.  If the two players cannot agree as to whether a foul has been committed, the two referees attempt to settle the dispute.  If it still cannot be settled, then it is declared that there was no foul.

At times, one of the players may think that his/her opponent is about to make a bad hit, double hit, or push shot.  In these “Judgment call” instances, the referees can be called to the table to closely watch the shot.  They must be called before the shot is taken.  Prior to the execution of the shot, the referees cannot offer any opinions or do anything else that would violate BCA rule 2.23 Outside Assistance Prohibited.  After the shot is taken, the referees do not declare a foul.  The player must make that call.  The referees are only for settling disputed fouls

SPORTSMANSHIP

Poor sportsmanship by either the team or individuals on a team will not be tolerated!  Disciplinary action may include forfeiture of the game, match or expulsion from the league at the discretion of the league operator.  Poor sportsmanship may include foul language, throwing of balls and/or sticks, or acting in an undignified manner.  Being a good sport does not mean taking it easy on your opponent, quite the opposite.  You’ll be respected far more if you give it your best each turn at the table.  Sandbagging, or deliberately shooting the 8-Ball into the pocket to take a loss or to lower the handicap will result in the forfeiture of all prize money.  No second chance on this one, you do it, you lose it all.

150% HANDICAP

150% Handicap with a will be used for this year’s league play.  Whatever the Team Handicap works out to be, there is a maximum of 25 points.

SUBSTITUTES

Substitutes are not allowed in the middle of a match.  If a player starts the evening, they must finish.  If for any reason the player cannot finish playing that evening, he or she must take zeros for the remainder of their rounds.  If a player misses the first round of play and shows up late, they can still play the remainder of the rounds as long as they arrive before their turn in that round.  The team average must be changed for all rounds.

PUSH SHOTS

It is a foul if the cue ball is pushed by the cue tip, with contact being maintained for more than the momentary time commensurate with a stroked shot.  (See rule 2.20 in League Player Handbook)

PRACTICE

Practicing during League Play is not allowed.  Practicing on the same table the league match is played on is not allowed.  However, tables not being used for league may be used for practice as long as it does not interfere with league play.
